Hukum Suntikan Vitamin C dan Glutathione

Ada seorang rakan bertanya tentang hukum injection atau suntikan vitamin C dan glutathione.

Terus terang saya doktor perubatan tetapi bukan ahli agama, jadi dalam bab hukum biasanya saya akan tanya pendapat rakan2 ustaz dan peguam syariah. Suami saya seorang pakar bedah plastik, sebab tu kami dah banyak bincang tentang hukum:

• Plastik surgery atau pembedahan plastik
• Cosmetic surgery atau pembedahan surgery (dan yang berkaitan dengan nya seperti botox)
• Aesthetic surgery atau pembedahan aesthetik

Di sini saya akan kongsi sedikit ilmu yang ada.

Bila google keywords, yang keluar semua blog post. Yang saya baca semuanya bukan ditulis oleh doktor bertauliah. Ada pulak yang jual vitamin (ni ada conflict of interest).

Bahan rujukan yang boleh saya kongsi adalah majalah Indonesia bernama Ummi yang ada menulis artikel yang detailed tentang suntikan vitamin C dan glutathione.

Point menarik yang saya ambil dari artikel ini:

• Vitamin C adalah antioksidan dan diperlukan oleh badan untuk pembentukan kulit dan penghasilan kolagen.
• Kebanyakkan warga Indonesia berkulit coklat dan ini sesuai dengan cuaca di Indonesia yang mendapat banyak cahaya matahari, kerana pigment atau warna kulit melindungi dari sinar UV (ultraviolet) matahari.
• Dihujung artikel mengalakkan gaya hidup sihat, makan buah dan sayur, cukup rehat dan sebagainya supaya tidak memerlukan suplemen vitamin C.

Takde pulak sebut tentang hukum.

Malaysian Medical Resources juga ada bagi pendapat.

• Disebut tentang side effects atau kesan sampingan injection vitamin C & kolagen/placenta, localised inflammation of the vein (tempat injection bengkak dan sakit), thinning of bones (tulang jadi rapuh), kidney problems (masalah buah pinggang) dan allergic reaction (alahan).
• Health Director General (DG) Dato Dr Ismail Merican kata tak ada kebaikan ("vitamin C administered intravenously is of no real benefit to anyone").

• Dr Hemandas (senior consultant and laser surgeon at HKL) berkata "vitamin C supplements were for people with low levels of the vitamin" (suplemen vitamin C hanya untuk mereka yang kekurangan vitamin C) and "from a scientific point of view, there is no justification for its use as an intravenous infusion" (dari segi saintifik, tidak ada bukti kegunaan vitamin C dalam bentuk suntikan ke dalam salur darah).

Yang ni pula blog tentang hukum suntikan vitamin C dan botox oleh Ustaz Ahmad Adnan Fadzil, yang mempunyai persamaan dengan blog post saya sebelum ni tentang hukum plastic surgery.

Secara am, ia bergantung kepada niat. Kalau niat semata2 nak cantik, ia dilarang kerana merubah ciptaan Allah dan melakukan pembaziran.

Nak cantik dan awet muda, tak perlu pembedahan plastik atau suntikan vitamin C, boleh baca blog post saya tentang Tips Kecantikan.

Plastic Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery, Perception, Truth

"My husband is a plastic surgeon".

You know the scene. Wedding. Reunion. Seminars. You meet someone new. Genuine small talk. Standard questions; where are you from, what do you do for a living, oh you're married/have children, is your husband a doctor too? Up until that point, conversation is very polite and low-key.

Then comes all kind of comments, some positive, some funny, and some not very ...flattering, depending on your point of view.

Flashback: I remember one lecture in medical school, I honestly can't recall what the title was, but we were thought not to react or show our emotions when the patient reveals things that are unpleasant or shocking, because we do not want to discourage the patient from telling us the truth that might help in their treatment.

Back to the conversation with the new friend. "Well', I tell the new friend, "that's cosmetic surgery. My husband doesn't do any of that. His patients are mainly cancer patients, people who've had their limb or finger injured or cut off and patients who have burns".

Then comes that moment where you see a change in perspective, a change in paradigm, happening right before your eyes. "Oh I see". The new friend says, almost apologetically. "I didn't know that". Sometimes, they are genuinely disappointed because they were hoping for some discounted cosmetic surgery. Other times, the conversation heads into "what reconstructive surgeons actually do" and "what its like to be married to a surgeon". Definitely more interesting than "life as a lecturer" or "life as a non-plastic surgeon doctor".

I can hear readers thinking, what is the point of this status update again? Is it to tell everyone what my husband does for a living? Of course not. Now that I have your attention, the point I'm trying to make is this; it's all a matter of perception.

Perception is our viewpoint of the world, the map that we hold and believe to represent reality. Reality, on the other hand, is the actual world itself. (I think I first read about this in the book 'Seven habits'). I have come to know a lot of people have perceptions about what plastic surgery is, and I can't blame them. If I was not married to one, I wouldn't have a clue either. All I would know is what I had seen on tv, read in the papers, heard on the news etc.

  MM LOL thanks; yeah I have his friends telling me he was a brilliant and gifted student back in high school. I said that's why I married him. Anyways, he is still brilliant and gifted, just as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon now :)
