VISITING SINGAPORE TIPS

Thought I'd save this here for future reference. Will probably write another post when we come back.

Last visit to Singapore was many years ago when I was working in Taylor's University School of Medicine, and we had to go to Singapore for training on how to use the Harvey.

My current Med School doesn't use the Harvey but we do encounter many patients with murmurs on the ward.

Since then, there was another session at Taylor's by Prof from USA who specialised in simulation medicine. I was working in Perdana University Graduate School of Medicine then, so traveled about 15 minutes from home to learn from the actual expert from US! Definitely better than travelling all the way to Singapore to learn from a student of the expert...

Visiting Singapore soon. Any tips?

Jason Choe Get ready a lot of tissue or toilet roll (in your hand bag) as its washroom doesn't provide the hose for washing
Mazlyn Mustapha Errk ok. We use bottles😅
Ken-Boon Teoh Alone or with kids? Universal Studios should be good.
If not, you can never go wrong with the botanical gardens there if you like greens.
Mazlyn Mustapha With hubby, no kids. Yay😝

But hubby going to conference, so hope to do something for myself.
Ken-Boon Teoh Lol! Enjoy yourself!
M Yusaimi Md Yusof just stay in the hotel..honeymoon. ha ha
Ahpooki Tai need to bring lots of money...!!
Dhalila Dahlan go by car or plane...bring lots of money or better use credit card.
Mazlyn Mustapha Yeah. Got hubby's credit card. No worries 😝
Wong Yew Hon Universal Studios
Mazlyn Mustapha Feel a bit old for USS😆
Colin Paul Day Gardens by the Bay and as said previously lots of money exchange rate sucks 😂
Mazlyn Mustapha Ok sounds good
Abidah Abdul Ghafar Garden by the Bay is good for recreation that will not cost you a lot. A wide garden by the bay, which you should go during the day and also pay a visit at night. Different views and experience...
Siew Eng Chuah Theatre especially by Wild Rice. And jalan-jalan around Geylang, etc the old, colourful, culture-infused part of the city. And makan briyani. Dollar for dollar it's cheap, only $5,the last time I was there. And yumms. http://www.hungrygowhere.com/.../geylang_briyani_stall.../
. And light and sound show at the esplanade at night. And the art gallery.
Mazlyn Mustapha Wow ok, will definitely check this out. Thanks😊
Siew Eng Chuah But you got to go early or long queue. There are other briyani stalls and things to eat there, so you still have choices.
Keow Wee Loong Be prepare for on time efficient public transport, some Malaysian find it annoying that their ride arrived on time all the time
Mazlyn Mustapha 😂 😭 dunno whether to laugh or cry
Keow Wee Loong Our currency fell a lot, still remember paying 40ringgit for a drink in starbucks
Amish Patel Book everything on the net before going. All tickets to all places. Spend a little and stay at the universal studios hotel. You are allowed to enter earlier than the public. And after being exhausted, you can go directly to your room
Mazlyn Mustapha Our hotel is near the conference
Francis MK Universal studios.

After 5 pm, when everyone else is tired, you will have the whole park to yourself (a bit exaggerated) and you can go on the roller coaster and the 3-D or 4-D movies multiple times!!!
Mazlyn Mustapha Francis MK I like movies!
LikeReply6 mins
Amish Patel And I thought the spore flyer was a waste of $
Colin Paul Day That went bankrupt not sure it still runs
Vincent Wong Bring a pack of tissue. Use that to book a seat when you go to the food court to order food.
Mazlyn Mustapha Wow....like that one ah😅
Vincent Wong Yes. That's the first thing you will notice when you go food court. Empty tables with tissue paper packs on the tables every where. "It's their way to book their seat. "
Nur Atika Mustapa shopping centre!!
Shah rukh khan loved this place😄😄😄
Mazlyn Mustapha For shopping ke? Not a fan of shopping
Nur Atika Yes dr..
Nasuha Yaacob 24hrs mall, mydin-like,sells everything..

Chong See Ming Please visit the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum..It's world class!!
UncleSam Ekol Dont think of the currency exchange rate when shopping.he.he..
Mazlyn Mustapha Hahaha😜
Azaman Abu Bakar For nasi padang, go to Rumah Minang, opposite the Masjid Sultan. For excellent halal buffet, there are 3 places...Royal Scott, Grand Hyatt, and the Westin. Make reservations because they are always packed.
Mazlyn Mustapha Weiiii diet la. Food not on my mind at all😆
Azam Aimin don't diet while travelling..sebab dah mmg automatically on diet...missing meals..susah nk jmp halal food etc..I normally lost weight when travelling..hehe
Mazlyn Mustapha Yeah, we like to eat maggi je😝
Fadzlishah Johanabas If you're going there by flight, get the tourist travel pass at the airport. Cheap. When you return the card(s) they'll return the SGD10 deposit if I'm not mistaken.

Use Google Maps for public transportation timing. Uber is way cheaper than taxi, but still quite expensive (terrible exchange rate).
Mazlyn Mustapha Tourist travel pass? Ok
Zeal Zainuddin Try visiting the Masjid there you will be very inspired. Very well maintained and organized. I was really benefitted when I stayed there from 2004 to 2007. ALHAMDULILLAH. i.e. Masjid Sultan, Masjid Ba'alwi, Masjid Ghurfan and etc. WALLAHUA'LAM. I doa you and hubby have a blessed and safe trip. Aamiin.
Abidah Abdul Ghafar yup... the masjids are well maintained and modern.... a must-go as well...
Zeal Zainuddin The Masjids AJK in Malaysia can learn a lot about how the Masjid's are being managed and run in Singapore. Fyi they are self funded and most of the Masjid are in very good quality and many quality programs with many youths involved as volunteers and participants.WALLAHUA'LAM.
Alwi Syed Find royal plaza in Scot hotel. Good place and halal food.
Rich Huang Since you like reading, check out their public libraries.
Anas Alam Faizli National Gallery
Jhaz Kitaro There's a murtabak restaurant near Sultan Mosque. Superbly delicious. The best i have tasted all my life. Cant recall the name of the restaurant though.. zam zam kot
Abidah Abdul Ghafar Murtabak dan Briyani Zam Zam... near Masjid Sultan. A must-go...
Jhaz Kitaro Yeah. Zam zam.. a must go indeed..
Mazlyn Mustapha Eh diet la😆

But sure, will look it up since you recommended
Shafiq Ayman Rosland You can try ke murtabak rusa
陳玉珠 Haha, my favourite kaya toast at Kopitiams with long queue . Food court at Vivo city has halal section.
Mazlyn Mustapha People please, I'm on a diet la😅
陳玉珠 Do as Singaporeans do. Aircond food court at Jurong point is where I am now not sure what to eat !
Ikha Zakariah If you like walking, I would recommend Mount Faber Park. It takes a few hours to complete but you're afforded fabulous views. Plus its free! https://www.nparks.gov.sg/.../parks-and.../mount-faber-park
One of the oldest parks in Singapore, Mount Faber Park is a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a host of…

Mazlyn Mustapha Nice! Will check it out, thanks
Fadhilah Hasbullah Pernah pergi Wardah Books, Bussorah Street?
Mazlyn Mustapha What's so special about it?
Shafiq Ayman Rosland Good, high quality Islamic books. Mostly imported. Mostly english books
Zaki Afifi Aku pun selalu ke sini
Mazlyn Mustapha Shafiq Ayman Rosland You mean to say there's nothing similar in Malaysia?
Shafiq Ayman Rosland Not quite. This bookstore only sell books that are deemed compatible with the mainstream Sunni whether written by Muslims or Orientalists. And they are quite selective. In Malaysia, it's difficult to finds these kind of books under one roof. Bookstore in Malaysia will sell whatever book that people want to buy.
Cikya Ab Majid Aquaria and Gardens by the Bay
Mazlyn Mustapha Nicer than our Aquaria?
Cikya Ab Majid They feature the biggest aquarium in Asia
Cikya Ab Majid Sorry not in Asia but in the world..
陳玉珠 The marine Aquarium at Resorts world Sentosa very nice. I don't mind lepak inside one whole day. Sit in the restaurant and see sharks swimming just in front of you separated by a layer of glass. Make sure not just go infor short time only as entrance fees is quite expensive. Fully air conditioned .
陳玉珠 Spend at least one whole day at Sentosa if you enter the Island.
陳玉珠 The old aquarium at Sentosa closed down some months ago. Current one at Resorts world next to Maritime museum showing the old Silk Route China is developing again at "one belt one road" initiative.
Shahrir Bong What you had in mind. I suggest you stay somewhere around Jalan Sultan @ near the Sultan mosque. Walking distance of all local food. Nasi padang ..oh yes you should try their nasi ambeng find it to be way better than us and more authentic...

It's near Bussorah Street too.
Rusyainie Ramli Must go to gardens by the bay. And arab streets
Maria Kamal Great public transport. So walk and ride away!

I walked from 9am to 11pm on my last trip.
陳玉珠 Gardens by the Bay very hot day time for kids. Night visit more beautiful with lights on at vertical trees( man made).
Rizalina Bahari Visit Taman Warisan Melayu. History of malay archipelago. Makan best Biryani at Islamic Restaurant on North Bridge Rd, best murtabak is zam2 on same road. Best Nasi Padang...rumah Minang
Rizalina Bahari Art Science Museum n Gardens By the Bay.
Wmsuhaimi Wansulaiman sultan mosque n murtabak singapore at nearby zam2 restaurant n behind also there are nice local malay/jawa food(murtabak is not so good now compared to 1990s)
Shahrir Bong Murtabak previously it was Zam Zam , the next door Victory now latest I heard it is Nazem ( no worries it on the same shop lots building...
Shahrir Bong But they curi the mutton...so sikit..
Mazlyn Mustapha Why I feel so fat from reading the comments
陳玉珠 Food too expensive to get fat with current exchange rate 😎😛😜
Wmsuhaimi Wansulaiman haha...I can bring you to see all my oil n gas business associates n contacts down south to burn all the fat.
Wmsuhaimi Wansulaiman the oil n gas trading capital of ASIA..singapore
Naufal Aziz Al-Attas No chewing gum!
KC Liew I'd recommend going to the Asian Civilisation Museum, that's worth a visit.
Rizalina Bahari Yes ACM too. But check out their sites for these attractions. They have special events from time to time. Wardah books has great selection of Islamic books, history, sufism. Again check their IG.
Suraiya Abdullah I don't know about others, but every time I go to Singapore, I feel a sense of freedom. I know I can walk around without having to clutch my handbag to me for dear life and without having to look over my shoulder, look all around, to watch out for suspicious motorcyclists.
Mazlyn Mustapha Yeah, noticed last time the apartment block had no fence😅
Suraiya Abdullah It's so nice to feel safe and unafraid. I love Malaysia but I do not get that feeling when I am walking anywhere in KL.
Mazlyn Mustapha Have to agree with that, sad but true.
Shahrir Bong Mazlyn Mustapha the one ( Apt without fences are the rumah Rakyat HDB = Housing Development Board ) ..

Shahrir Bong I find taxi fare to be expensive the only problem with MRT , it was packed regardless of hours.
Sun Yih Ping just prepare more $ will do。

Tuan Zamani Amir use uber and grabcar..really good coverage and price...
