Tips for 200 Hours Training on Haemodialysis For Physicians

Someone asked me how to enroll for the 200 hours training in dialysis...

So I decided to write this blog post for others who may have the same question.

One of the reasons for choosing to come back to Kelantan, there were a few, was in pursuit of business opportunities.

Even before leaving my job in KL I had already planned to do the 200 hours training. Once I joined Lincoln University and attended the first meeting where I met Prof Kamaliah, she encouraged me to do the 200 hours training as she was also looking for a PIC for one of her dialysis center.

So she was basically the contact person for this whole endeavor.

To apply, google "Malaysian Society of Nephrology" website (click here for direct link).

You will see a "Certificate course for 200 hours training in haemodialysis for physicians" in a yellow box. Click that box.
This will bring you to a 5 page pdf for which details places where to undergo the training and ends with a form that needs to be filled.

At first I wanted to wait until my new life in KB was a bit more settled before applying, but Prof Kamaliah encouraged me to submit my application early as, according to her, it took sometime to get it processed. She was right.

I submitted my application somewhere in April and in mid-June, I received a call from Ms Rashidah on behalf of the secretariat, that my application had been approved. I am not writing this to give a bad impression, just merely stating the truth so that others may plan their application accordingly.

Who can apply? Anyone with MRCP, MMED or recognised post-graduate training in internal medicine and paediatrics. In the past this program was opened to pretty much any MO but now they have decided to restrict it to the above.

There is also a fee of RM2500. I called an enquired. Basically this fee will only be charged if the application is accepted. So don't worry about losing money. There is no risk in applying.

I have copied and pasted the 5 page pdf for convenience here:

Those are the first two pages of information provided on the website.

It's a good idea to call the secretariat for any questions, although it may take a few times to actually get through. I did because there were a few things I needed to ask, such as necessity to have NSR etc and the non-refundable RM2,500. I was given very good instruction on how to proceed.

All the training apart from the 185 clinical attachment is basically online. In the past there were classes that needed to be attended, now it is in a CD form. There used to be a place to go to take the exam where as now it is online, so its all very convenient.

The next page basically lists all the places where you can do the clinical attachment, which I copied and paste as below:

My application was actually sent by email.

After I received a call from the secretariat that my application was successful, I received a day later in the snail mail, a CD, my logbook and a letter. I was asked to confirm where I would do the clinical attachment and told who will be my supervisor. So I asked Prof Kamaliah and she gave me the state nephrologist's contact number.

I sent a WA and said that I am keen to start after raya, since it was already the last working week of Ramadhan before the official school holidays start.

The consultant gave me his staff phone number to contact and they have not returned my call so far. I am guessing it will be after raya. So in the meantime I am studying the contents of the CD.

Hope to update this in future as I complete the online examination and clinical attachment, for the benefit of others pursuing the same. Insya Allah. Hope this helps.

Projek Ramadan No5: Masjid SMK di Kota Bharu

Assalamualaikum semua...

Bank in details:
CIMB
Nama akaun: Masjid SMK
No akaun: 8602196361

12hb April 2017

14hb November 2017
Ustazah memberi latest update/perkembangan terbaru.

Ramadhan Projects 2016

Alhamdulillah, it has been a very eventful and satisfying Ramadhan this year.

Punya la busy sampai takde masa nak blog.

Tapi hari ni, mula settle sikit, boleh la tulis sambil reflect tentang the last 20 days.

Just want to write a brief summary, maybe need to make separate blog entry for the details in future insya Allah.

Bergabung tenaga bantu Thirdforce

Ramadhan Project No1:

Palestine.

So pegi la sekolah nak bagi kat Cikgu.

Tapi apakan daya.

Tapi doa dimakbulkan. Alhamdulillah. Ramai kawan2 yang nak tolong.

Pagi ni saya nak jumpa cikgu lagi sekali.

Takpe lah, buat masa ni, target 80 pelajar miskin tu dah pun tercapai. Jadi, bagi saya, projek no2 dah berjaya.

Setakat pagi ni, dana terkumpul berjumlah RM9145, sesuatu yang mustahil saya capai seorang diri.

Project Ramadhan No3:

Yang ni saya jumpa secara tak sengaja. Mula2 usha page Thirdforce Raja Shamri sebab ingat nak tolong buat Pek Syawal.

Projek Ramadan no4.

Moga Allah menerima amal kami semua. Aamiin.

Pad Payu Dara Bagi Ibu Menyusukan Bayi

Stock lama berwarna pink sebelah kanan

Olive Oil Uses

I admit, apart from using olive oil as food, adding it to salads, and other vegetable dishes, or taken raw, yeah, I actually do take a tablespoonful on occasion (that is when I forget to sprinkle some on my food), turns out there are many other uses of olive oil.

I love Palestine products which include:
Honey
Olive oil
Soap
Black seed oil or paste

I am a serious fan of the first three products. Black seed oil, I am only beginning to discover its benefits while the paste, I will try after I finish the oil.

Using Olive Oil to moisturize the skin.
Some tips shared by friends in facebook in relation to using olive oil as a skin moisturizer:

1) Can mix black seed oil and olive oil as a ratio of 1:1 and use as skin moisturizer.

2) Can be used to sooth skin on face especially after sunburn or overseas travels.

3) Transfer small amount in small bottle for ease of use.

Recycled the shampoo bottle from Redang Island Resort to store olive oil for skin use.

Black seed oil and paste or habbatus sauda

Black seed paste costs RM89 for 500mg
When I decided a few weeks back to buy the Palestinian olive oil soap, I also thought of selling Palestinian products as a means to help strengthen the Palestinian economy and indirectly, the Palestinian cause.

So I ordered one of each item sold. One jar of honey, one bar of olive oil soap, one bottle of premium POEVOO or Palestinian Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil and one bottle of black seed oil. To be honest, I have never bought or eaten black seed oil before that in the form of food supplement. Maybe I have eaten black seed that was used in preparation of food, but definitely not like this. My first encounter was when we went for Hajj in 2012 and a relative asked us to buy black seed or habbatus saudah and bring it back, which my husband did.

Honestly, I love the Palestinian honey. I do take honey and have eaten different varieties before. I certainly can appreciate the unique taste of the Palestine honey.

Olive oil too, I love to take with food. I do eat olive oil with sandwiches and meals even before coming across the Palestinian produce.

And soap, of course everyone uses soap, but this is the first time I am using organic and traditionally made olive oil soap from Palestine. In the beginning, I did not appreciate it, but after the first bar finished and I was waiting for the second to arrive, I then realized how different other soaps feel.

I am still learning a lot about black seeds or Nigella Sativa, the other day I read an article about the health benefits which are quite diverse but obviously will need further clinical research.

Here I just want to add a few notes as I go along for my readers and my own future reference.

Some quotes from my FB post by Shirali Shuib:

In ancient Egypt...

"ancient Egyptians used the black seed and described it as a panacea (cure for problems and diseases) ..

Tutankamun even had a bottle of the oil in his tomb"

In the Bible...

"Nigella Sativa (often called black cumin, in Arabic as Habbat-ul-Baraka (Blessed Seed) and in English as Love in the Mist) .. also mentioned in the Bible in Isiah 28:25-27 as the ‘fitches’ ..

"When he has leveled the surface, does he not sow caraway a
nd scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in its field? ..

.. 26 His God instructs him and teaches him the right way ..

.. 27 Caraway is not threshed with a sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin; caraway is beaten out with a rod, and cumin with a stick"

Contents...

"contains over 100 valuable nutrients. It is comprised of approximately 21% protein, 38% carbohydrates, and 35% plant fats and oils ..

.. active ingredients are nigellone, thymoquinone, and fixed oils

Black seed also contains significant proportions of protein, carbohydrates and essential fatty acids ..

Other ingredients include linoleic acid, oleic acid, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, selenium, vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin B2, niacin, and vitamin C .."

In the hadith...

"Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him). I heard Allah's Apostle saying ..

.. "There is healing in Black Cumin for all diseases except death" ..

(Sahih Bukhari 7:71:592)"

My first order of Habbatus sauda paste quickly sold out. Certainly I did not anticipate such a response. Need to order more.

Bantu Anak Lebih Berat Badan Untuk Kurangkan Berat Badan Secara Selamat

Takpe.

Semalam ada orang tanya tentang anak dia. Doktor kata anak dia kena kurangkan berat badan. Umur tadika, belum lagi masuk sekolah rendah.

Saya pun terus terang bukan pakar kanak2.

“Children have their own set of nutritional needs for healthy growth and development,” says Tamara Melton, a dietitian and instructor at Georgia State University.
The best way to help a child lose weight? Work with his pediatrician to make sure that he slims down in a safe way. But you can also think about these simple steps to help your child -- and the whole family -- live a healthier, fitter lifestyle.
1. Find the right weight goal. Many younger children shouldn’t actually shed pounds. “Since they’re still growing, they may need to maintain their weight or gain at a slower rate,” Melton says. Older teenagers may be able to lose a half a pound to 2 pounds a week. Your child’s doctor can let you know what you should aim for.
2.Say “no” to diets and supplements. Your first impulse may be to put your child on a diet. But unless her pediatrician recommends it, avoid these kinds of major calorie-cutting plans. They may mean she won’t get the nutrients and calories she needs to grow. Plus, many diets may teach your child that certain items are “bad” or off-limits, which can change how she sees food later in life.
Weight loss drugs or supplements aren’t a good idea either (except when the doctor prescribes them). There’s little or no research on how these pills affect children, so they may not be safe.
3. Get the rest of the family on board. Instead of singling out your child, have a conversation with the whole family about how you’d like to make healthy changes for everyone, including yourself.
“Kids learn their habits from their parents,” Melton says. So it’s important to lead by example. One study found that children were much more likely to lose weight when their parents also slimmed down".
Baby dah bangun, ok akan bersambung insya Allah.
